In this area the visitor will receive some answers to the underlying questions about flamenco dancing: what does it consist of and how does this show?

The visitor will be introduced to the principal pillars upon which flamenco dancing is built via some visual tools which allow an immersion in its basic expressions and teach to distinguish between its basic forms as well as allow for the enjoyment of this art and to leave this experience with a better understanding of the artistic criteria.

The path

The voyage from the patios to the great theaters

Flamenco emancipates: from the patios to cafes, tablaos, theatres, films and the opera in Paris. The area reflects (tells) the story of the social emancipation of flamenco dancing. At the end it makes reference to Cristina Hoyos who more than anyone knew how to dignify flamenco art opening the doors of the great stages of the world to it: The opera in Paris, the Olympic Games and the great theaters with international renommée.

Men and women of the World … and what they think of flamenco dancing.

The dance studio allows the visitors to see authentic performances by the dancers. They will understand that the exquisiteness and strength of flamenco dancing is the fruit of a life of practice, training and exercise.

The artists

Dancers … the people, their lives

Flamenco dancing expresses strength, it is intangible and ephemeral, and it does NOT appear and disappear with the artists. It is an art which enjoys the moment. Thus this area is dedicated to the professional dancers who made history, it looks deeply at the personal dimension of the dance professionals, witnesses the efforts necessary to become a “star”, it’s solitude and moments of glory and makes reference to the tools of their trade, their costumes and garments.

At the end of the tour of the previous areas of understanding and knowledge the visitor will find a multimedia spectacle of the highest artistic expression. This spectacle summarizes and concentrates all those elements which represent the essence of flamenco art, the magic, the passion for life.

An artistic vision in black and white

Through the eyes of Colita – more than 40 years of photography.

The photographer Colita has collected 40 years of flamenco memories. With her camera she has captured most flamenco artists, masters and unknown. She has made available to the Flamenco Dance Museum her collection of dancers which can be seen in the cloister on the first floor.
